Our advocates Jill Applegate and Emilee Harris were able to catch Senator Kamala Harris at her meet and greet at Backpocket Brewing in Coralville, Iowa on September 19th.
When asked about how she would address the child care crisis, Harris started out by saying “I strongly believe that you should judge a society based on how it treats its children.” She then said that the cost of child care has been rising at a rate that does not mach with wage growth.
She also stated that the child care crisis falls in step with other issues that parents and children are facing, including equal pay for women so that mothers can provide for their children and paid family leave – which she would mandate at least twelve weeks of paid leave.
